May 27th till June 5th the Dutch Water Week is here. An event in which water sports in all its pluriformity come together. Now that Proef Pampus, a multi-day culinary festival on the island off Amsterdam, has joined in, it has everything it takes to become a major public event. The Dutch Water Week is an initiative of the Watersportverbond (association of water sports organizations), TIG Sports and is supported by Allianz.

The Dutch Water Week takes place in the waters off Amsterdam, Almere and Lelystad. At various places on the water there are competitions in modern, but also in longer established sailing classes. The Allianz Regatta is the best known example. There will also be demonstrations of new water sports and the opportunity to do sports yourself as a newcomer or as an enthusiast. It will be the water sports week of the year. For the whole family.

Pampus: in the middle of the competition area

It is the eternal flaw in sailing: it is not a public sport. People on shore are simply too far away from the sailing competition to see anything. With the hooking up of Proef Pampus, this shortcoming has finally been addressed: the island of Pampus is right in the middle of the competition area of the Allianz Regatta. “The 1,200 visitors that Proef Pampus attracts each day will be right on top of the competition. How wonderful,” says Marijn Stokker, initiator of the Dutch Water Week and employed by the Watersports Association.

Chilling out and good food

Proef Pampus is a multi-day culinary and cultural festival. Besides good food and drink, there are other fun activities. There will be live music, children can build huts and boats, there are pleasant market stalls and there is even a real circus tent. All this without neglecting the museum function of Pampus: the museum is open as usual.

Broader target group

Now that Proef Pampus is part of the Dutch Water Week, there will be a grandstand for watching the sailing regatta and tents for fĂȘtting business guests with delicious food, for example. The collaboration offers Proef Pampus the opportunity to reach a wider audience. Bart Kuilman: “Families who are not all that water sports minded will have a great time here. There is something for everyone! Sponsors will also love it here.”

Any event is welcome to join

“The goal is to make Dutch Water Week an annual event,” says Marijn Stokker. Secretly, he dreams of it becoming the largest water sports event in the world. Any event that feels attracted to the Dutch Water Week is welcome to join.
