In the spotlight: Batavia Stad, premium shopping experience ‘on dry land’.

In the run-up to the Dutch Water Week, we put a number of stakeholders in the spotlight. In addition to the activities on the water, visitors to this water sports festival can also enjoy themselves ‘on dry land’ in outlet center Batavia Stad. We have a strong match in terms of experience,” says Scott Otte, marketing director at Batavia Stad Fashion Outlet.

What is the role of Batavia Stad in the Dutch Water Week?
“Among other things, the event takes place in the water in front of Lelystad. That’s pretty much our backyard. We like to be a good neighbor and want to help make this new event a success. For example, we are making a large parking lot with electric charging stations available, so that visitors can park their cars with us. That’s within walking distance of the waterfront.”

What is the purpose of Batavia Stad during the Dutch Water Week?
“In our region, connection is key. By linking organizations and events, we are joining forces to put this event on the map. This way we can reach more people and show how much we have to offer as a region: from nature and culture to sports and entertainment. Whether you take a stroll by the Markermeer or come shopping with us at Batavia Stad, there is something fun for everyone. Lelystad is easily accessible, so a varied day out is always close at hand.”

Why are Batavia Stad and Dutch Water Week a match?
“The Dutch Water Week provides experience and excitement for visitors. We were the very first outlet center twenty years ago and we keep our fashion outlet concept fresh and surprising. We do this with promotions such as Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 car and our first own sustainable pop-up shop RE.love, which opened at the end of 2021. So in terms of experience, I see a strong match anyway. In addition, we have many nautical brands such as Protest, Helly Hansen, O’Neill and Brunotti, which means that fans of water sports will also find what they are looking for in terms of fashion at Batavia Stad.”

What should we know about Batavia Stad and don’t we know yet?
“The brand awareness of Batavia Stad is extremely high; 90% of the Dutch know us. Only not everyone knows that our offer has been largely renewed in the past ten years with luxury, renowned brands such as American Vintage and Reiss. Also, more and more local brands are opening a store in our shopping city. My Jewellery is a good example. Batavia Stad has transformed itself from a bargain village to a premium shopping experience, with the advantage that you can always shop at discounts of 30% to 70%.”

What are you looking forward to in Dutch Water Week yourself?
“The Dutch Water Week is guaranteed to bring new audiences to Lelystad and the surrounding area. Of course we are looking forward to that. I can’t think of a better place than our own region where people can enjoy themselves in many ways. Combining watching the races with a visit to Batavia Stad is therefore my best tip for visitors to Dutch Water Week.”
