In the spotlight: Allianz, partner in ‘having fun on water’

In the run-up to Dutch Water Week, we put a number of stakeholders in the spotlight. In this episode we ask five questions to Sophie Martens (Brand & Partnership Lead NL) and Frank Burghout (IOC Lead) of Allianz Benelux, the partner who embraced water sports. “Building together with confidence and dedication further on the future of water sports in the Netherlands.”

What is the involvement of Allianz in the Dutch Water Week?
Sophie: “Allianz is the main sponsor of the Allianz Regatta in Almere. Our common ambition is that with the Allianz Regatta as the eye-catcher, the Dutch Water Week will grow into a wonderful water sports festival for all enthusiasts. In addition, from 2021 to 2028 Allianz has a partnership with the Watersportverbond and Team Allianz, the national sailing team. So with this we are also supporting water sports in the Netherlands in a very broad way.”

What is Allianz’s objective during the Dutch Water Week?
Frank: “The ambition and innovation that are already visible in the plans for the Dutch Water Week will be given even more substance in the coming years. It will be an event that we would like to attend with our clients, employees and business partners and celebrate the joy of water with the entire water sports loving Netherlands.”

Why are Allianz and the Dutch Water Week a match?
Sophie: “The Allianz Regatta is leading and innovative and this is also reflected in the Dutch Water Week in several areas. As I said, we support water sports in many ways. As Allianz we are extremely happy and proud that we can link our name to the various great water sports since the beginning of 2021. Events are one of the pillars of the partnership that we have with the Watersportverbond and TIG Sports. Together we want to build with confidence and dedication on the future of water sports in the Netherlands. Building also on the pleasure of current and new athletes on the water, on the innovation of the sport and the preservation of the Dutch waters. The Allianz Regatta and the entire setup of the Dutch Water Week are a good example of this.”

What else should we know about Allianz?
Frank: “That we are active on many more fronts when it comes to water sports and sport. Together with our partners and the municipality of The Hague, we are also organizing the Youth Sailing World Cup 2022, the Sailing World Cup 2023 and we are the Local Performance Partner during the Ocean Race stop over in The Hague. Allianz has been supporting the International Paralympic Committee since 2006 and last year launched the Global Partnership of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that runs until 2028. With this too, Allianz is building a better and inclusive world through sport, based on the Olympic and Paralympic vision.”

Do you have one golden tip for visitors and what are you looking forward to yourself?
Sophie: “During Dutch Water Week, you can experience different facets of water sports by watching races from the island of Pampus and by participating in activities as a newcomer or enthusiast. The demonstrations of new, urban water sports will also be worthwhile. In short, there is something for everyone – young and old. I’m really looking forward to watching the sailing races with my family from Pampus, enjoying the culinary festival on this special island and introducing our sons to water sports for the first time during Optimist on Tour.”

Frank: “I’m looking forward to IQ Foiling, a discipline that will replace RS:X at the Olympics. That’s very spectacular and enormously fascinating as a spectator sport. The speeds achieved can hardly be matched by a speedboat.”
